Background
This activity serves as the second part of the "Advancing Chinese Traditional Culture in Greater Bay Area Schools - Symposium for Teaching Cantonese Opera in Schools 2025”, which will be organized by XICH in Hong Kong in 28 May 2025. The second part will be organized by Shunde Education Development Centre in Guangzhou and Foshan, Guangdong Province.
This comprehensive symposium will focus on the pedagogy of Cantonese Opera, targeting educators and students alike. It includes a series of presentations given by experienced primary/ secondary school teachers and experts in Cantonese Opera. Participants will gain valuable insights into effective pedagogy for Cantonese Opera, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese traditional culture.
Complementing the symposium, a dynamic student exchange component will facilitate cultural and educational interactions among students, teachers, and performers from various schools across the Greater Bay Area. These exchange activities will include collaborative performances, class observations, cultural excursions, etc., providing students with hands-on experience and promoting cross-cultural dialogue and friendship.

Aims
- To enhance Cantonese opera knowledge and teaching skills for EdUHK students through expert-led symposiums interactive workshops, and exchange activities
- To inspire students to explore creative expression and innovation within the framework of traditional Cantonese Opera, encouraging them to experiment with contemporary interpretations and modern techniques while respecting and preserving the art form's historical integrity.
- To foster educational exchanges, interaction, and collaboration in teaching and learning Cantonese Opera between students, teachers, and schools in the Greater Bay Area to facilitate the sharing of best practices
Activity Contents
Cantonese Opera Teaching Symposium: Inviting experts, scholars, and teachers in Cantonese opera to share their teaching experiences and explore the application and development of Cantonese opera in modern education.
Exchange Activities: These include Cantonese opera performances, interactive workshops, school visits, and class observations, aiming to promote friendship and cultural exchange among students and teachers in the Greater Bay Area
Cultural Visits: Visiting museums and cultural heritage sites in the area to enhance understanding of Chinese culture.
